If you are interested in doing the Strongman competition on November 6th hosted by our friends Kurtis and Laurie Bowler from Rainier CrossFit, please sign up ASAP, and also email me so I know who is participating.
Here are the details of the event. Remember EVERYONE can SCALE! This is a fun event/fundraiser to benefit Fragile X.
Weight classes will be 175 and under, 176-200, 201-225, and 225 and up for men and 120 and under, 121-140, 140-160, and 160 and over for women. There will also be a prize for the top team (consisting of 2 women and 2 men) determined by the teams placing in the individual events and a prize for the top couple.
The events will be a 1 rep max deadlift with an Ironmind Axle. We will run this like we did the second year for anyone who was there. We will start out with a base weight for each weight class. The weight on the bar will go up in 20lb jumps to a certain weight, then go up in 10lb jumps. You can take up to three attempts. The start weight will be determined the morning of by the lowest 1 rep max in each weight class to ensure everyone gets at least one good lift.
The second event will be a short run (less than 200m), 5 stone loads to a 50" platform (1 stone loaded 5 times), 1-2 trips up a 16 foot rope. You will go through this 2 rounds for time. Weights for the men, 175 for the 175 and unders, 200 for the 176-200, 200 for the 201-225, and 230 for the 226 and over, for the women 120 and under and 121-140 will use 100, 141-160 will use the 135, and 161 and over will use the 155.
Next will be 7 Log Press, Push Press, or Push Jerks, followed by 21 double unders. You will do this 3 rounds for time. Weights for the men are 175 and under will use 130#, 176-200 will use 140#, 201-225 will use 150#, and 226 and over will use 160#.
The women will use an Ironmind Apollons Axle (2" thick bar) 120 and under will use 83#, 121-140 will use 93#, 141-160 will use 103#, and 160 and over will use 113#.
The final event will be a keg carry/farmers walk medley. This one will be pretty heavy, but I haven't got all the weights figured out yet. Heavyweight guys will be using in the neighborhood of 250 lbs per hand for the farmes walk and 275 lbs for the keg carry. The weight will go down from there.
The big thing I want to get across with the events is they will ALL be scalable. We have lighter stones, we'll have options for the ropes, you can sub singles for double unders, etc. So if you've always wanted to try some of this stuff now is the time! Scaling will take you out of the running for a prize, but it will still be a blast.
The contest will be drug tested just like the last 4 years. The test we use (as recommended by The National Center for Drug Free Sport who we consulted with on this- www.drugfreesport.com) is a screen for cocaine, stimulants, depressants, cannibis and PCP. We also use a test for anabolic steroids and their masking agents.
